The real meaning of yoga

The ultimate goal of Yoga is not to get very good at doing Yoga postures. The ultimate goal of Yoga is inner freedom.

The practices of Yoga (and any spiritual path) are tools to fulfil a purpose. They are not the end goal in themselves - just as a boat carries you to your destination and is no longer needed.

Keeping the wider goal of Yoga in mind transforms our practice; we are less concerned with ‘achievements’ on the mat and our practice comes alive with depth, meaning, richness & joy.

Sādhanā

... is a Sanskrit term from the Yoga tradition meaning spiritual practice⁣

It refers to what we do - in a practical sense - to quieten our minds, unravel the knots of our hearts and come home to ourselves⁣

Although there are many different sādhanās, the term implies consistency and dedication. The benefits come with regularity! ⁣

We’ve lost this a little in our sporadic drop-in-class culture these days - and it’s especially vital in unstable times to anchor ourselves with healthy, meaningful routines

Our regular series 'DEEPEN INTO YOGA' does exactly that⁣. 6 classes with insights from yogic wisdom will provide your weekly home-base for a healthy routine and all the body & mind benefits of weekly yoga & meditation sādhanā

private yoga meditation english teacher training

I’ve learned in my 12+ years of teaching that the most effective format is 1-on-1 sessions

Just me & you, your body/mind, your questions & your own dedicated time on the mat⁣

In the past many students have booked privates to:⁣

✨Personalise their yoga (dynamic / calm / a mixture)⁣
✨Design a safe & effective home practice⁣
✨Recover from injury⁣
✨Work on essential poses to check they're 'doing it right' ⁣
✨Feel safe, supported & encouraged ⁣
✨Learn mindfulness meditation⁣
&...

❓Are you struggling to commit to a regular & consistent yoga practice (& feeling like drop-in classes aren’t really serving you?)⁣
❓Are you not-quite-ready for a room full of people, but feel lost practising alone?⁣
❓Are you interested in taking your yoga practice to the next level?⁣

I currently have availability for new private students - and yes I'm fully vaccinated (& yes you're allowed to ask :))⁣

Get in touch to say hello & we can go from there 👋⁣

'Mauna' & Peaceful Retreat Mornings

One thing I love on retreats is our quiet mornings⁣

Silence is an invitation for inner quietude, and is traditionally a key aspect of Yogic practice (‘Mauna' in Sanskrit). Retreats in nature are the perfect place to enjoy it

Silence frees up the space to enjoy 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 itself; to sip tea, feel the sun's warmth on our skin, dip in the pool or wander through the trees in full awareness ⁣

Quiet spaces are such a luxury in today's society! When do we otherwise have the opportunity to be quiet together?⁣

How am I approaching meditation?

In today’s practice we talked about a vital aspect: our attitude⁣

It can be tempting to be forceful in our meditations, and to judge ourselves harshly when the mind is busy⁣. Yet, if part of the practice is to resolve inner conflict, then this is counter-productive and only hinders it

Meditation can instead be a sanctuary; a welcome opportunity to tend to our inner landscape with loving awareness. To allow what needs to be heard, seen within to express and be held. To slowly untie the knots in our hearts⁣

✨This subtle shift in attitude is a powerful way to meet ourselves authentically. Over time, this opens doorways to the true goal of Yoga: Freedom ⁣✨

Listening to the Body (Flow & Restore)
⁣…designed to bring you in touch with the innate intelligence of the body. Our bodies are always giving us feedback, but so often we're too busy or distracted to listen. We encourage energy flow, then slow down and tune within to what needs to move, process and breathe⁣

Opening to Inspiration (Flow & Nidra) ⁣
…our Summer Solstice special - flow yoga followed by a deep guided relaxation journey around the theme of opening to fresh possibilities as we welcome this next chapter (available as a whole class, and as 30min pure Yoga Nidra)⁣

All video library classes can be booked individually (€3-6) or access everything any time for €24.99 / month⁣

I’m always interested to hear how this works for you!⁣

How do we define Yoga? What are we doing?

This is my all-time favourite translation of the definition of Yoga from the opening 'Yoga Sutras' of Patanjali⁣

Is 'Yoga' the practice/s or the state we arrive at? (i.e. the 'stilling' of the mind or the tranquil space itself) Or is it both?⁣

✨ In any case, it's certainly not about physical perfection, but an inner process guiding us to uncover the true nature of our innermost self ✨⁣

So, what does that mean for my own practice? If you're interested to explore this together:⁣
